This tool explores completed evictions in Washington, D.C., from October 2024 through June 2025 provided by the Office of the Tenant Advocate. The OTA gets this data from the U.S. Marshals Service, which is responsible for carrying out court-ordered evictions in Washington.
While completed evictions are the most concrete data point on how many households are removed from their homes, they represent only a portion of those experiencing eviction — far more are court-ordered and scheduled. From fall 2023 to fall 2024, about 58% of evictions scheduled in D.C. were completed. Some that are scheduled but not carried out represent tenants who were able to come up with the funds to pay their rent. However, tenants also often self-evict, choosing to leave their home before their scheduled eviction date after receiving a notice.
